As a key organization committed to primary education, the PO Raad is responsible for ensuring transparency and providing support to elementary school. A specific challenge they face is ensuring that schools disclose important data and reports so that parents and other stakeholders have access to relevant information.
CHALLENGE
How can this tool really support the user?
Publishing information is time-consuming and school leaders often have limited time due to their other responsibilities. In addition, a previously created system was not working well, creating the need for an improved backend and user-friendly interface. The project provided an opportunity for both technical improvements and an enhanced user experience.
APPROACH
Interviews with school leaders
The project began with interviews with staff, school leaders, policymakers and other stakeholders to understand their needs and wants. This feedback was used to develop a prototype, which was then tested and evaluated. I was involved for the development of the design concept; I was no longer involved in its development.
SOLUTION
Overview of relevant actions
The main goal was to create an intuitive system that gave school leaders the freedom to publish information while maintaining control and visibility. The focus was on creating a home page with recognizable elements and providing overview for key indicators.
The design was set up functionally, focusing on quick access to figures, important actions and new announcements. In addition, a task list concept was implemented to clearly and conveniently display indicators and see what actions still need to be done.

Stay involved
The project had a short lead time of four weeks, which posed a challenge to achieve a good design. The importance of working more closely with end users and stakeholders became clear in order to get the most out of the design process. Although the limited time and lack of collaboration affected the development, we were able to get the most out of it. A key learning moment is that engagement with the developer is essential to achieve a successful product.
